One-sentence summary: David makes Solomon king, and he gives tasks to the different tribes and people of Israel for the building of the sanctuary.

When David is "old and full of days," he makes Solomon king over Israel. He gathers the elders and the Levites together and assigns them tasks for the building of the sanctuary. It says that David had made musical instruments for giving praise to God. He says, "The Lord God of Israel has given rest to his people that they may dwell in Jerusalem forever." He also says the Levites will no longer carry the tabernacle or the articles for its service because their job is to help the priests and minister in the tabernacle.

Chronicles are recorded of Aaron's lineage.

David also separates some to prophesy and play instruments and be instructed in the songs of the Lord. And they draw lots to determine specific jobs so that the Lord decides.

Thoughts/discussion questions:

David wanted to leave a legacy to his children and his people that would honor the Lord and carry on His work after he died. We need to have a vision that is greater than our lives! Ask God for His vision for your life, and think BIG!

David delegated for the Levites. He knew they were better suited to minister to the Lord rather than do menial work. There are some who are "Martha's" who have a gift of helps and some who are "Mary's" who love to minister to the Lord through long, set apart times. It's okay to be a little of both, and God may call you to be one or the other in different seasons- but we usually have a particular "bent!"
