One-sentence summary: The Lord proclaims judgment against Ninevah but good news for His people.

The burden of the Lord against Ninevah: The Lord is jealous and avenges. He is slow to anger, but He will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies. He is slow to anger and great in power but will not let the wicked go free. He is to be feared, for "who can stand before His indignation?" The Lord is good and a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who trust in Him. He will end all conspiracies against Him. The Lord will free His people and destroy all idols. "Behold, on the mountains! The feet of Him who brings good tidings and proclaims peace!" There will be no more wicked in the end, for they will be utterly cut off.The Lord will restore the excellence of Jacob. Ninevah was like a pool of water, says the Lord through Nahum, but now they flee, and the city will be empty, desolate, and laid waste because the Lord is against them. The Lord says, "Woe to the bloody city," full of "lies and robbery." Many will lie dead because of their"seductive harlotry" and sorceries. The Lord will put them to shame and expose them before all nations. He will make them a "vile spectacle" so that all will flee from them. They will be devoured by the sword. Their injury has no healing, and their wound is severe; those who hear of their calamity will clap their hands because there wickedness was passed to all the nations.

Thoughts/discussion questions:

No matter how bad things got, get, or will get, God always has hope and a plan of redemption put in place for us in Christ.
