One-sentence summary: Jeremiah prophesies judgment on Egypt, the Philistines, and Moab.

The word of the Lord comes to Jeremiah against the nations, against Egypt and Pharaoh Necho at the time Nebuchadnezzar defeats him. The Lord tells Egypt to draw near for battle and get ready for war. He says the mighty ones are beaten down, and they have fled. The Lord says they will stumble and fall. Egypt "rises like a flood," and they think they will cover the earth. The Lord says that this is the Lord's day of vengeance that He may avenge Himself on His adversaries. The sword will be made drunk with their blood. The Lord says to Jeremiah that Nebuchadnezzar will come and strike Egypt. He tells Jeremiah to proclaim in Egypt that, though they prepare for war, they will be defeated, delivered to the people of the north. Pharaoh and those who trusted in him will be punished and given into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, but afterward, it will be inhabited as in days of old. The Lord tells Israel and Judah not to fear, because the Lord will save them from afar. They will return and have rest and be at ease, and no one will make them afraid. He tells them not to fear because He is with them.

The word of the Lord also comes to Jeremiah against the Philistines. The Lord says waters from the north will overflow the land. All the inhabitants of the land will wail at the sound of war, and they will be plundered. The Lord Himself will do this. The Lord also pronounces woe against Moab and declares their destruction and desolation. He says cursed is the one who does the work of the Lord deceitfully. They also will be plundered, and their calamity and affliction will come soon. This is because Moab exalted himself against the Lord and was exceedingly proud and haughty. Just as Israel was a "derision" to him, he also will become a derision and be ashamed. However, in the latter days, the Lord will bring back the captives of Moab.

Thoughts/discussion questions:

Even though the Lord judges these nations, He still promises redemption to them, for those who repent. That is His heart.
