One-sentence summary: The Lord gives Israel "the law of leprosy," or how to deal with a leprous plague and be cleansed; He also gives instructions for bodily discharges and how to be cleansed.
Rather than go into too much detail, I will give a brief summary. The Lord gives Moses more laws regarding lepers, thus concluding "the law of leprosy."
A priest must go to examine a leper outside the camp, and if he is declared clean, he must offer a sacrifice to the priest, and the priest will make atonement for him (there are very specific instructions on what this entails.)
The Lord also speaks to Moses and Aaron about how to cleanse a house that has been discovered to carry the plague.
Finally, He gives them clear instructions on how to deal with bodily discharges for men and women, including that a woman during "her time of the month" will be unclean for seven days, along with anything she touches and anyone who touches her, and if a man lies with her during this time, he will be unclean for seven days, and the same rules will apply to him. At the end of this time, she must also offer sacrifices to the priest, who will make atonement for her.
God says that this is how Israel is to be "separated from their uncleanness" so as not to defile His tabernacle.
Thoughts/Discussion Questions:
You can see where the expression "cleanliness is next to godliness" comes from! Cleanliness and consecration (separation from profane things) is obviously very important to God. It is so good to keep this in mind. Also, thank God for mercy and grace!
