One-sentence summary: The journey places of Israel are retold, the Lord gives the people commands to drive out the inhabitants of Canaan and destroy their idols and high places-and what will happen if they don't- and He gives exact borders for Canaan and assigns leaders to divide it to the tribes.

We hear of all the journeys of Israel, which Moses wrote down.

The Lord speaks to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho and tells him to command Israel that when they have crossed the Jordan into Canaan, they are to drive out all the inhabitants of the land, destroy all their idols, and demolish all their high places. They will divide the land by lots to give to the tribes as an inheritance (to the 9 1/2 tribes remaining, since Gad, Reuben, and 1/2 of Manessah asked for an inheritance outside of Canaan.) However, He warns them that If they do not drive the people out, those that remain will be "irritants in [their] eyes and thorns in [their] sides," and the people will harass them. Also, the Lord will do to Israel as He had planned to do to the people of Canaan.

The Lord commands Moses to tell Israel all the exact borders of Canaan that He is giving them.

The Lord assigns leaders to divide the land to Israel.
