One-sentence summary: Joshua divides the land among the tribes of Israel.

The kings that Israel defeated are listed (31 total).

Joshua is old, and the Lord speaks to him and tells him that there is still more land to possess, the land of the Philistines and others as well. He promises to give Israel victory and tells Joshua to be sure to divide the land to the nine tribes and half of Manasseh. Only the tribe of Levi has no inheritance, as the sacrifices are theirs. The children of Judah comes to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb (now 85 years old) declares he is just as strong as he was on the day Moses sent him to spy out the land. He says he is up to the task of war and asks Joshua to "give him this mountain." He says God may be with him and that he will be able to drive out the people of Hebron. Joshua blesses him, and Hebron becomes his inheritance, because he "wholly followed the Lord God of Israel." Then, the land has rest from war. And Caleb gets a share among the children of Judah, which is Hebron.

There is a story of how Caleb's brother marries his daughter, and she persuades him to ask her father for a field. When Caleb asks her what she wants. she asks for springs of water, so these are given to Judah as an inheritance as well as land.

It says that the children of Judah were not able to drive out the Jebusites, and so they dwelt alonside them in the land.

Thoughts/discussion questions:

The Lord fulfilled His promise to drive out the inhabitants little by little. We need patience to utterly defeat our enemies. When God says now is the time, and the grace is there, we must obey. That is the "easy" way.
