One-sentence summary: Cities of refuge are designated, and the Levites are given portions of land from each tribe for they and their livestock to dwell in.

The remaining tribes are given land.

The Lord tells Joshua to appoint cities of refuge as He had spoken to Moses. He should tell the elders of the city his case, and the elders should take him into the city and protect him until he stands before the congregation for judgement and until the high priest of that day, and then he may return to his own city.

Then, the heads of the Levites approach Eleazar, Joshua, and the heads of the tribe at Shiloh in Canaan, and they ask for some land to dwell in and for their livestock, and they are given some cities and lands from each of the tribes (besides the ones who had their inheritance on the other side of the Jordan.)

It is written that "The Lord gave Israel all the land of which He had sworn to their fathers... He gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers, and not a man of all their enemies stood against them. The Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass."

Thoughts/discussion questions:

Like the Levites, we are priests unto God in Christ. The Lord is your portion!

The Lord is the ultimate and only true promise keeper!
